To ensure that information given to the customer on load ratings is
accurate, a load and wear test rig has now been commissioned
The design and development is a continuing operation by ARVIS to
assess loads and wear on plain bearings.
The test rig will help to ensure that the information given to you is not just from some
catalogue but is reliable.
The rig is based on a milling machine base but has a table mechanism that supplies a
constant load to the bearing whilst the shaft is rotating at the selected speed. When
coupled up to a computer and a thermocouple, the rig can measure the wear under these
conditions together with the temperature and print out the results.
Obviously lubrication plays a critical roll in the life of the bearings and the rig will
help to identify the best lubrication for your requirements.
Tests so far show how critical the tolerance between shaft and bearing is, and a 50%
increase in load could be obtained by altering the bearing fit.
